“A committed, dedicated and effective grassroots community leader” best describes Edith Ladipo, who has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life of the Southwest Atlanta communities and organizations she represents.
Edith is passionate about improving the quality of education for students in Georgia’s urban communities. As a former Equal Opportunity Specialist with the U.S. Department of Education, and Director of several Pre-school and Head Start programs, Edith’s passion for learning and teaching is evidenced by the investment of her time and attention to teaching at risk students in regular and after school programs. She is committed to increasing her student's reading and math skills.
Edith is also passionate about environmental preservation and stewardship. She established the first "Georgia Adopt A Stream Monitoring Program" in the City of Atlanta, the "Clean, Green and Beautiful Livable Community Project", the "Environmental Justice Education and Leadership Institute", and numerous partnerships with local colleges and universities to share resources and provide intern opportunities for students.
Edith’s commitment to sustainable livable communities has been demonstrated in the research studies she has designed and implemented in Southwest Atlanta, which have served as planning models for the City of Atlanta. As a community activist, Edith has shown a remarkable ability to harness state and federal resources by forming "partnerships for change” with State and Federal Agencies designed to pool resources with the City of Atlanta for highway beautification, transportation improvement and park projects, environmental monitoring, and other programs and activities.
She has received numerous community service awards for the outstanding achievements in community development and environmental enhancement, including the Nymph Award from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Community Service Award from the Atlanta Planning and Advisory Board and awards from the Urban Life Institute, as well as Georgia State University.
